Pouring Concrete for the Foundation Video

Bob and Ryley discuss the concrete that is being poured into the Styrofoam forms for the foundation. Modern concrete trucks hold eleven to twelve yards, whereas older ones held nine, which coined the expression "the whole nine yards". Ryley points out that a workman is tapping the forms to make sure that there are no cavities in the concrete. Don, a concrete technical representative, meets with Bob and Ryley as well and explains that the mix is slightly more liquid than most with a fifty-fifty blend and three quarters peastone. The increased flowability does not compromise strength but does help eliminate cavities in the pour. The typical concrete foundation will take about twenty-eight days to achieve strength. In colder climates freezing is an issue. Don explains that an air extraining agent is added to deal with freezes and thaws and to give moisture somewhere to go.
