Before the basement space could be finished as living space, this Melrose family needed to control water problems around the home. Starting on the exterior, old clay collectors were replaced with rain chutes designed to carry water away from the foundation and out to the stormwater runoff. Inside, drainage, weep walls, and a sump pump will keep water from building up. Finally, an interlocking, slotted floor will allow any water to run under the new flooring and to the sump without soaking the finished space.
