Coincidence factor
The ratio of the coincident, maximum demand or two or more loads to the sum of their noncoincident maximum demand for a given period; the reciprocal of the diversity factor, and is always less than or equal to one.

Coincident demand
The demand of a consumer of electricity at the time of a power supplier's peak system demand.

Coinsurance
Policy that states the minimum percentage of value to be insured in order to collect the full amount of loss. Policyholders must buy insurance in an amount equal to the value of the improvements to their property. Arrangement where the insured and insurer share on a proportional basis the payment for a loss.

Coinsurance clause
Provision in an insurance policy that "caps" the insurer's liability by stipulating that the owner of the property that has experienced damage must have another policy that covers usually 80% of the cash value of the property at the time of damage, in order to collect the full amount insured.

Coke
Coal from which most of the gases have been removed by heating. This industrial type fuel burns with little smoke and intense heat.

Coking
In a pump, where a reduction of hydrocarbons results in the formation of carbon residue that will interfere with the movement of a mechanical seal. Also referred to as Carbonizing.

Cold applied
Products that can be applied without heating. These are in contrast to tar or asphalt which need to be heated to be applied.

Cold checking
Small, square-like pattern that can appear in a painted surface when exposed to excessive cold.

Cold chisel
A metal cutting chisel, which incorporates a striking surface and handle with the shank of the chisel. The length of the chisel is wedge shaped for about a third of the way, tapering down to a hardened cutting edge. Hammers are used to strike a cold chisel.

Cold cracking
Paint cracks due to exposure to excessive cold.
