The name by which plants are known by non-botanists. Plants that have a short history of cultivation may not have a common name. these names vary from country to country, even from region to region.
Common rafter
Rafter that extends from the top plate to the ridge. Generally set 12, 16, or 24 inches apart.
Common vent
Building drain system vertical vent which connects two or more fixture branches on the same level.
Common wall
A single wall that serves two dwelling units.
Community association
A name given to any association of property owners sharing an interest in commonly owned property, which may be developed in condominiums, cooperatives, or housing subdivisions.
Community property
A classification of property peculiar to certain states and referring to property accumulated through the efforts of both husband and wife.
Community property laws
Statutes stipulating that the property accumulated during a marriage, belong equally to each spouse, irrespective of how much each contributed.

Law which encourages the loaning of money in neighborhoods where minority depositors live.
Commutator
Device used to change the direction of an electrical current. Alternately, a revolving part in a motor or dynamo that collects the current from or distributes it to the brushes.
Compact fluorescent lamp (cfl)
A generic name used for a whole family of small, single-ended fluorescent lamps with a folded, bridged, or spiral glass tube design and with high color rendering (cri>80) and a long life (>8,000 hours).
