In a wood-frame house, the section of wall under the house between the concrete foundation and the floor joists. Also called crawl space walls.
Critical compression pressure
The highest possible pressure in a fuel-air mixture before spontaneous ignition occurs.
Critical path method (cpm)
Work scheduling where all major jobs are laid out in a diagram to show the proper sequence of work and the necessary time required for each, providing a visualization so that indications can be made to show which operations are critical to others.
Critical point
The stage in temperature and pressure at which the liquid and vapor phases of a substance are equal.
Critical pressure
The minimum pressure needed to liquefy a gas at its critical temperature.
Crock
A piece of broken pot used to help drainage. Almost always referring to clay or ceramic pieces.
Crocket
An ornament of curved leaves or flowers on a curving stalk, which is used to decorate the angles of roofs, gables, etc., primarily with Gothic architecture.
Crocking
Any material used in the bottom of containers to provide drainage (i.e. shells, rocks, broken pottery, Styrofoam.).
Crocus cloth
Finer than sandpaper grit on a cloth backing.
Crook
The distortion of a board in which there is a deviation, in a direction perpendicular to the edge, from a straight line from end to end of the piece.
