Dozer
Slang for the piece of heavy construction equipment, called a bulldozer. The machine consists of tractor-like machinery, which moves on treads and has an adjustable, front-mounted scraper blade which moves the dirt by pushing it in front of the machine and is used to smooth and level a building site.

Dozing
Slang for the movement of material by use of a bulldozer or dozer.

Draft
(1) Drawing or pulling. (2) A current of air as in a room or heating system. Alternately, the device that regulates that current of air in the heating system. (3) A rough or preliminary sketch. (4) Drawing with precision.

Draft diverter
A door-like device located at the mouth of a fireplace chimney flue for controlling the direction and flow of the draft in the fireplace as well as the amount of oxygen that the fire receives.

Draft gauge
Also called a manometer, this device is used to measure slight changes in a low-pressure system, such as an HVAC system, or for remotely measuring a level in a tank of liquid. One end of the U-shaped tube, which contains fluid and is marked with a graduated scale for measuring, is open and the opposite end is connected to the low-pressure source. The fluid in the tube is moved or displaced by slight pressure changes and the change can be read on the scale, which is calibrated to read directly in the desired units of measure.

Draft hood
A device built into or installed above a combustion appliance to assure the escape of combustion byproducts, to prevent backdrafting of the appliance, or to neutralize the effects of the stack action of the chimney or vent on the operation of the appliance.

Drafting
The precision drawing of plans for structures, etc. with the use of drawing tools.

Drafting machine
Mechanism for drawing a straightedge at a constant angle on the surface of a drawing.

Draftsman
(1) One who draws in detail using drawing tools, making plans of structures or machinery, etc. (2) One who draws up legal documents, speeches, etc.

Drafty
Letting in or being exposed to a uncontrolled flow of air.
