Elastic
(1) Loosely woven fabric made with strands of rubber or rubber-like material running through it enabling it to return to its shape after being stretched. (2) The ability to immediately return to its size or shape after being stretched or expanded.

Elastic limit
The limit to which a material can be bent or pulled out of shape and still return to its former shape and dimensions.

Elasticity of demand
The ratio of the percentage change in the quantity of a good or service demanded to the percentage change in the price.

Elastomer
A material which, after being stretched, will return to its original shape.

Elastomer lining
Elastomer is very often used as a protective lining to keep hoses, valves and pipes from contact with harsh chemical that are carried in fluid systems.

Elastomeric
Properties of a material that will permit it to return to its original shape after being stretched.

Elastomeric coating
A coating that can be stretched to twice its dimensions and that will return to original when tension is released.

Elbow
A fitting with two openings that changes the direction of the line. Also known as an ell. It comes in various angles from 22 1Ú2 degrees to 90 degrees; often referred to by their angles (i.e. 45, 90).

Elbow curvature
The ratio between the bend radius of the elbow and its diameter.

Electric arc spraying (easp)
Molten metal coating sprayed by use of an electric arc for heating. The electric arc moves between two consumable electrodes and a gas is utilized to atomize and spray the metal.
