Electrodeposition
Electrolytic process in which a metal is deposited at the cathode from a solution of its ions.

Electrodialysys
A process which uses an electrical current and an arrangement of permeable membranes to separate soluble minerals from water. It is often used to desalinate salt or brackish water.

Electrogas welding (egw)
Electric arc welding process, which uses a consumable solid or flux-cored electrode, either with or without an external shielding gas.

Electrolysis
A chemical reaction of a metal with another metal in the presence of an electrically conductive fluid, causing one to erode.

Electrolyte
A nonmetallic (liquid or solid) conductor that carries current by the movement of ions (instead of electrons) with the liberation of matter at the electrodes of an electrochemical cell.

Electromagnet
Mechanism, which is made of, a magnetic material wrapped with an electrically conductive coil through which the current is passed to bring about magnetism in the material.

Electromagnetic energy efficiency
Energy generated from an electromagnetic field produced by an electric current flowing through a superconducting wire kept at a specific low temperature.

Electromagnetic field (emf)
The electrical and magnetic fields created by the presence or flow of electricity in an electrical conductor or electricity consuming appliance or motor.

Electromagnetic spectrum
A continuum of electric and magnetic radiation that can be characterized by wavelength or frequency. Visible light encompasses a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum in the region from about 380 nanometers (violet) to 770 nanometers (red) by wavelength.

Electromechanical
Device combining electrical and mechanical components, for example as in an electric motor.
