Pellet stove
A space heating device that burns pellets; are more efficient, clean burning, and easier to operate relative to conventional cord wood burning appliances.

Pellets
Solid fuels made from primarily wood sawdust that is compacted under high pressure to form small (about the size of rabbit feed) pellets for use in a pellet stove.

Pelton turbine
A type of impulse hydropower turbine where water passes through nozzles and strikes cups arranged on the periphery of a runner, or wheel, which causes the runner to rotate, producing mechanical energy. The runner is fixed on a shaft, and the rotational motion of the turbine is transmitted by the shaft to a generator. Generally used for high head, low flow applications.

Pelton wheel
Invented around 1890, to improve the water wheel and to drive electrical generators, this water turbine wheel has high pressure water directed at the buckets around its outside, turning the wheel.

Penal valve
A commercial flush valve, so-named because of its use in penal institutions.

Penalty
Money that will be paid by a person or business for violating a statute or legal court order. Also may be assessed for violating the provisions of a contract.

Penalty clause
Provision in a contract that specifies the dollar amount or rate an individual to the contract must pay for not conforming to its terms.

Pencil

Pencil rod
Reinforcing rod with a diameter of no greater than 1/4 inch.

Pendant
Pendants can provide both task and general lighting. Equipped with shades or globes to avoid glare, they are suspended from the ceiling over dinette tables, game tables, kitchen counters, or other work areas. When used over end tables or night tables, they free up the space occupied by table lamps. In general, pendants should be hung about 30— above the tabletop and be about 12" narrower that the table on all sides.
