Rack and pinion table elevation
Rack and pinion table elevation is a system of gears that make it easier to adjust a tool's table height.

Racking
The method of installing asphalt shingles where the shingles are installed straight up to the ridge rather than horizontally. If this method is used with 3-tab shingles, the throats of every other course will line up.

Radial
Straight-line outward movement from a circle's center.

Radial drill
A drill press with a moveable arm that can be swung to various positions on the work table.

Radial ducting
An HVAC system with ductwork running outward from a central heating and/or cooling unit.

Radial saw

Radiant
System that uses hot surfaces to radiate or convect heat into the environment. Without the use of fans or blowers.

Radiant barrier
A thin, reflective foil sheet that exhibits low radiant energy transmission and under certain conditions can block radiant heat transfer; installed in attics to reduce heat flow through a roof assembly into the living space.
