Roof curb
A frame used to structurally mount rooftop equipment such as HVAC units, exhaust fans, skylight, etc.; may be pre-constructed or constructed on site.

Roof deck
That component in building construction, which forms a platform on which the remainder of the BURM components are placed.

Roof drain
A drain installed at the low spot in a roof that channels water into a drainpipe to prevent pooling.

Roof drain strainer
A wire mesh strainer used to prevent leaves, twigs, and other debris from entering and clogging a drainpipe.

Roof flashing
Sheet metal installed at any break in a shingled roofline to prevent leaks. Also around sewer vents, fluepipes.

Roof jack
A steel bracket fastened to the roof that is used to support toe boards or a term used to describe a Pipe Boot or Flashing Collar.

Roof overhang
That portion of the roof that extends beyond the exterior wall line of the building.

Roof pitch
The angle or steepness of a roof. Typically expressed as a certain rise over each 12 inches of run - for example, a 6 on 12 roof rises six inches for every twelve inches of run. Also called Roof Slope.

Roof pond
A solar energy collection device consisting of containers of water located on a roof that absorb solar energy during the day so that the heat can be used at night or that cools a building by evaporation at night.

Roof rise
The vertical rise of a roof over a certain horizontal distance (run).
