The layer or layers of waterproofing products that cover the roof deck.
Roofing nail
A nail with a large head, used to fasten asphalt shingles.
Roofing tape
An asphalt-saturated tape used with asphalt cements for flashing and patching asphalt roofing.
Root ball
The network of roots along with the attached soil, of any given plant.
Root pruning
This is done in two instances. One when repotting from one pot to another, roots that have grown in a circle are trimmed to promote future growth. Also, when planting into the garden or landscape, a plant that needs root trimming.
Rootbound
A condition which exists when a potted plant has outgrown its container. The roots become entangled and matted together, and the growth of the plant becomes stunted. When repotting, loosen the roots on the outer edges of the root ball, to induce them to once again grow outward.
Rooting hormone
A chemical in powder or liquid form which promotes the formation of roots at the base of a cutting. Contains hormones and anti-fungus growth prohibitors.
Rootstock
The roots and stems arise from this part of the plant.
Rope
A braided length of material, usually plant fibers, used to tie or support objects.
Ropey
A defective paint finish where the dried surfaces shows ridges, brush marks, or similar imperfections.
