Slip-resistant tile
Tile having slip-resistant characteristics due to an abrasive admixture, abrasive particles in the surface or grooves or patterns in the surface.

Slip-tongue
A spline or small strip of wood or metal used to reverse or change direction in installing standard tongue and groove strip flooring. Sometimes used in laying 3/4" solid tongue and groove parquet.

Slippage
It is the sliding, lateral movement between adjacent to plies of felt along the plane of the bitumen film separating them, which results in a randomly wrinkled appearance.

Slit sample
A cut made in SPF roofing to measure coating thickness. The cut should be about 1.5" long by 3Ú4" deep by 1Ú2" wide.

Slobber bits
Steel guides, which are used to confine material to the front of a scraper bowl cutting edge, when attached to each side of the bowl of a road scraper blade.

Slope
The incline angle of a roof surface, given as a ratio of the rise (in inches) to the run (in feet).

Slope bar
Attachment for a bulldozer that is used to cut slopes in rocky soil.

Sloping
Widening, across the top of a trench so that the sloping sides will minimize the possibility of a cave in.

Slot
An elongated hole.

Slot cut
Description of a tile that has been cut to fit around pipes or switch boxes. This tile is usually in the shape of the letter "H" or the letter "L".
