Socket adapter
The socket adapter converts a ratchet to handle additional drive sizes.

Socket drive size
Socket drive size indicates the size and capacity of the ratchet that drives a socket. The size is measured at the top opening of the socket that connects to the drive. There are four standard drive sizes.

Socket or socket wrench
Wrench, which has a rounded outside edge but a hexagonal (or similar) shaped inside that is used to grip a nut or fastener head. The other side of the head is formed of a driver, which has a square shank, and may be a torque wrench, ratchet or breaker bar.

Socket type
sockets are classed based on the number of inside points, or internal corners, in the socket itself. There are three basic socket types.

Sod
Grass which grows in a thin soil layer and is then cut into strips and laid on prepared soil to allow the roots to gain hold. It creates an instant lawn.

Soda ash
The common name for sodium carbonate, Na2CO3 a chemical compound used sometimes used in soap and detergents to neutralize acid water.

Sodium lights
A type of high intensity discharge light that has the most lumens per watt of any light source.

Soffit
(1) External area under the roof overhang. (2) Horizontal portion of an eave. (3) Covering over the space under the eaves of a structure. (4) Piece reaching the cabinet tops to the ceiling.
