| Soil ph
|
 |
The amount of lime (calcium) contained in your soil. A soil with a pH lower than 7.0 is an acid soil, a soil pH higher than 7.0 is alkaline soil. Soil pH can be tested with an inexpensive test kit purchased from your garden center. |

 |
A pipe that penetrates a roof and is used to vent a building's plumbing. |
| Soil polymers

Super absorbant polymers recently developed that can increase water retention of soils. They can absorb hundreds of time their weight in water and are primarily used in container bound plants. |
| Soil porosity

 |
Extent to which soil has cavities or pores that allow water to pass through. |
| Soil productivity
|
 |
Ability of the soil to accomplish the desired objective such as its capacity for harvesting crops. |
| Soil retardant
|
 |
A chemical finish applied to carpet and fabric surfaces which inhibits attachment of soil to fiber. It is usually a topical treatment but may also be inherent in the fiber. |
| Soil stack
|
 |
Largest vertical drain line to which all branch waste lines connect. This line carries waste to the sewer line. |

 |
Mixture of the types of soil in a section of land - for example, sand, clay, loam or mineral particles. |
| Soil survey
|
 |
Surveying the land to determine its suitability for a specific purpose, such as building a high-rise apartment. |
