Level with a fluid filled glass tube that, when held perfectly level, either vertically or horizontally, allows the bubble that is trapped in the tube to be perfectly centered.
Spirit stain or varnish
Wood stain, that dries quickly, due to the addition of a volatile liquid vehicle that evaporates easily.
Splash block
A pad which is placed under the lower end of a downspout and diverts the water from the downspout away from the house. Usually made out of concrete or fiberglass.
Splash guard
A fabricated metal pan or masonry block that is placed below a leader pipe or downspout and is used to help protect the roof membrane on a lower roof level or to prevent soil erosion when placed on the ground.
Splash walls
The walls of a tile drainboard or bathtub.
Splatter paint
Paint, which gives a bumpy finish or mottled appearance, by being applied in droplets to a dry base coat.
Splice
(1) To join or unit. (2) To fasten the ends of wire together by twisting, soldering, etc. (3) To join ends by overlapping and binding or bolting together.
Splice plate
A metal plate placed beneath the joint between two pieces of metal.
Splice tape
A self-adhering (usually double-sided) tape used for splicing membrane materials.
