Stab rod
Metal rod that measures the thickness of freshly laid asphalt. The movable collar stop is adjusted to the required depth before the rod is inserted into the asphalt.

Hacksaw blade with a small handle. It is used in tight places.

Stack effect
A condition resulting from the rise of heated air, which creates positive pressure near the top of the building and negative pressure toward the bottom. Stack effect pressures have been known to overpower mechanical ventilation systems, disrupting proper circulation and contributing to the infiltration and stagnation of pollutants.

Stack loss
Sensible and latent heat contained in combustion gases and vapor emitted to the atmosphere.
