Apparatus that consists of a number of thermocouples combined so as to multiply the effect and is used for generating electrical current.
Thermoplastic
Becoming soft when heated and hard when cooled, or a thermoplastic resin, such as polystyrene or polyethylene.
Thermoplastic-insulated wire
Electrical wire with a thermoplastic covering. Designated as type T wire.
Thermoset
A material that cannot be reshaped or formed by heating. EPDM and Butyl are thermosets.
Thermosetting plastic
Material that can be softened a single time by heat. After one heat application, the substance becomes a heat resistant material.
Thermosetting resin
Material that can be softened a single time by heat. After one heat application, the substance becomes a heat resistant material.
Thermosiphon effect
Movement of fluid induced by heating. The fluid expands as it is heated and is forced through the system.
Thermostat
A temperature sensitive switch for controlling the operation of a heater or furnace. Typically found on a wall inside the home, that consists of a series of sensors and relays that monitor and control the functions of a heating and cooling system. A device that allows you to control the temperature inside your home by telling the heating or cooling system how much air to produce. An automatic control device designed to be responsive to temperature and typically used to maintain set temperatures by cycling the HVAC system.
Thermostatic control
Device used to regulate the point at which the burner for the water heater is activated.
Thermostatic valve
Pressure-balancing shower mixing valve with automatic temperature control. When temperature or pressure fluctuations occur at the water inlets, a thermal actuator adjusts the hot and cold ratio to maintain the original temperature setting.
