A material that extends through a wall and is used to direct water entering a wall cavity to the exterior of the structure.
Throw (lt)
The maximum distance between the center of the core and a plane which is tangent to a specified envelope and perpendicular to the intended direction of flow The throw is generally referred to as the envelope corresponding to 0.25 m/s for zero supply temperature differential (i.e., under isothermal conditions).
Thrust
The application of force in one direction.
Thrust block
Concrete reinforcement poured under a pipe where a direction change occurs. The block supports the pipe and prevents it from moving under the force of the moving liquid inside.
Thumb screw
A screw with a large head, designed to be tightened by hand.
Tidal power
The power available from the rise and fall of ocean tides. A tidal power plant works on the principal of a dam or barrage that captures water in a basin at the peak of a tidal flow, then directs the water through a hydroelectric turbine as the tide ebbs.
Tie
A wood member which binds a pair of principal rafters at the bottom.
Tie beam
Concrete or timber beam that serves as a support in the wall structure of a building. Concrete tie beams are often reinforced with steel rods.
Tie coat
A treatment applied between two coatings to improve bonding.
