The time rate of heat flow per unit area under steady conditions from the air (or other fluid) on the warm side of a barrier to the air (or fluid) on the cool side, per unit temperature difference between the two sides.
Transom
Small, usually rectangular or fanlight window over a door. Some transoms open to cross-ventilate a home, while others are only decorative.
Transparent
Clear. Not opaque.
Transpiration
The release of moisture through the leaves of a plant.
Transplanting
The process of digging up a plant and moving it to another location. This should be done in the late Fall, when the plant is dormant.
Transport velocity
The minimum required air velocity necessary to keep airborne particles from settling.
Transverse
Crosswise. At right angles.
Transverse seam
The joint between the top of one metal roof panel and the bottom of the next panel, which runs perpendicular to the roof slope.
Trap
Curved section of drain line that prevents sewer odors from escaping into the atmosphere. All fixtures that have drains must have a "P" trap installed. A toilet is the only plumbing fixture with an "S" trap.
Trap seal
Height of water in a toilet bowl "at rest.". It provides the water seal which prevents sewer gases from entering the home. It is measured from the top of the dam down to the inlet of the trapway. Also referred to as deep seal.
