Variable speed drill
A variable speed drill has a range of operating speeds which allows the user to adjust drilling and cutting speeds to different materials. While softer materials can be drilled at higher speeds of up to 1300 rpm, metals and other hard materials require slower speeds for fast, clean drilling. An added benefit of variable speed operation is that the user may start holes at slower speeds to eliminate the walking movement of a drill bit which can occur at higher speeds.
