Choosing the fence design to complement and enhance a landscaped yard is important. Height, texture, color, construction, material and placement in relation to gardens, walkways and home are all part of a design decision.

The BrattleWorks design chosen for the Medford, Massachusetts colonial was a privacy lattice base panel with an open trellis topper panel made of western red cedar. The side yard fence height is 6 feet. Around the house front the trellis topper was removed, for a height of 4 feet. The 1-inch opening of the lattice created privacy between neighbors, hid HVAC equipment yet allowed light and air through the fence so a garden would flourish.

Gates complement the fence panel style and height. BrattleWorks’ gates come complete with heavy cast English decorative hinges and a ring latch. Gates are reversible so one can decide to have them swing left or right, in or out.

Finally, the Medford contractor chose BrattleWorks’ ForeverPost™ which is a combination of wood-metal pipe construction. The pipe end is placed in concrete in the ground for durability while the natural wood is above ground. The ForeverPost™ is an alternative where extra strength is required, the ground is constantly wet or termites are a problem.
