Garage Door - Exterior
The Lifespan house, like most of today's homes, locates the garage door in an area that is readily visible from curbside. Given the high-profile positioning on the home's facade, it's important to choose a garage door that complements the home.
The Kalmans selected 1920's-style garage and entrance doors from Designer Doors. The garage door replicates the appearance of those beautiful, old double swing-out garage doors, but like all Designer Doors garage doors, it rolls up with an automatic overhead opening system. The doors start with a clear-grade Douglas fir framework and are dressed out in Western Red cedar.
Garage Door - Interior
The high sap content and natural rigidity of the fir framework make for doors that are stable and enduring. The door is insulated to an R factor of 8 to 10 and is sealed from the weather with a flexible vinyl seal and a butyl rubber gasket in an aluminum retainer at the bottom to prevent rain and snow from coming under the door. The track and mounting hardware is also heavy duty and built to last.

In their Limited Editions Collection, styles range from the French country-style swing-open carriage door look to the or arched opening appearances of the European Inspirations, to the paneled door look of the American Greats. Many of these doors appear to swing, fold or slide open, but in fact all models roll up conveniently with automatic openers.
