With the landscaping around the back of the mansion nearly complete, Bob joins Sam Daniels for a quick tour. To create a screen from the busy street below, the landscapers have planted a loop of American hollies, which when mature will grow to be 15 to 20 feet in height, along the brick walkway.
From this perspective you can get a good view of the completed addition to the mansion which is a three story masonry affair that includes the accesible elevator. The entrance to the new addition, which is easily accessed by way of a gently sloping brick walkway, is covered by a clever porch detail designed by the architect. The porch incorporates a poured concrete slab as a roof but at the same line as the water table of the antique house, so that when you see it from certain vantage points it really seems to disappear. This is a much neater approach than introducing a gabled roof or something similar would have been.
