Fixing Food Mixers

Food mixers are not only handy kitchen devices, they are relatively easy to troubleshoot and repair.

Remove fasteners on the food mixer's base to access internal parts.

A food mixer is simply a motor with gears and speed controls.

A food mixer is a motorized small appliance that blends recipe ingredients in a mixing bowl. A small motor rotates detachable beaters in opposite directions. A speed controller varies the electrical current delivered to the motor, thus controlling the beaters' speed.

There are two types of food mixers: portable (or hand) mixers and stationary (or stand) mixers. Portable mixers are lightweight, with small motors for easier mixing and blending jobs. Stand mixers use larger motors and components to manage bigger jobs, such as kneading dough or mixing large batches of ingredients. They both work about the same and can be fixed the same way, too.

Disassembling, testing, and fixing a food mixer is similar to disassembling, testing, and fixing other small appliances. Refer to Electrical Cord, Appliance Controls, Motor, Fuse, and Multimeter for repair guidelines.
