Replacing an outdoor lighting fixture with a motion activated spotlight can conserve energy and increase home security.
Step 5: Re-test for voltage. With the cover removed, you should see the wires that connect the lighting fixture to the home's electrical supply. Carefully untwist any wire nuts to expose the wires. If there is any electrical tape covering the wires, remove it as well. Be careful not to touch the bare wires. With the wires exposed, use the voltage tester again to be sure that the circuit is dead. Test the exposed wires for voltage.
Warning! Electricity is inherently dangerous. If you are installing a motion sensor light in an area where there is currently no outdoor light, you’ll need to contact an electrician to wire the fixture for you. We do not recommend that you attempt to do this wiring yourself. If you are uncertain about any stage of this installation or if you experience any problems, call an electrician.
