Louisiana-Pacific rep Dave Probst points out the features and benefits of L-P's SmartSystem engineered wood siding products that are being installed on the Yonkers house. Instead of trimming the rafter ends with pine, the Habitat crew is using L-P's SmartStart Fascia and then finishing it off with SmartStart Trim.

SmartSystem products replicate the appearance of solid wood with added performance benefits. They have an engineered wood substrate of aspen wafers coated with rubinate binders and treated with an EPA registered wood preservative (zinc borate) making the finished product exceptionally strong, consistently straight, and resistant to fungal decay and wood-destroying insects.

Bonded over the substrate is a resin saturated paper overlay embossed with a rich cedar-grain texture providing a durable, weather-resistant, pre-primed, ready-to-paint exterior surface.
