Loft Conversion - Plastering 101

1) Special tape is used to strengthen the seams between each sheet of wall board.

2) Metal beading is used on the corners, it keeps everything looking nice and square.

3) Once the taping and beading are done, it's time to grab your hawk and trowel.

4) First, a thin coat of plaster is spread over the seams in long even swipes.

5) Bob is shown here gathering plaster with a trowel. He will work from the hock in his left hand.

6) Once the seams have their first coat, it's time to start with the open wall spaces.

7) The walls are covered with long swipes that flow from bottom to top.

8) Things go quickly at this stage, lots of plaster gets mixed and the finish progresses nicely.

9) After the final coats are on, the finish will be hand troweled for up to an hour while the plaster dries.

10) Many thanks to John Hurl and his crew for a beautiful plastering job.
