DIFFICULTY RATING: (2 out of 5 - Easy)

It's easy to replace an old, scratched door handle and lockset with a new model that is sized and handed to match your current lockset.
Step 3: Replace the striker plate
Check to see if the new striker plate is the same size as the old one. Take out the screws and remove the old striker plate. Position the holes for the new striker plate over the existing holes and screw it in place. If the new striker plate is larger, make the opening larger by cutting away at the top and bottom of the opening using a utility knife.
Center the new striker plate over the existing holes and insert the screws.

Lockset (Buy) Screwdriver (Buy)
Buy the correct handle for your door by checking the position of the handle as you open the door toward you. As it opens toward you, a right-handed lockset will be on the right and a left-handed set will be on the left.
