"No-Coat" Pre-Finished Drywall

Behind the Scenes - Habitat for Humanity

As drywalling steams ahead, Bob points out a revolutionary new pre-engineered drywall product that helps streamline the construction process.

Developed by Drywall Systems International, No-Coat¨ Structural Drywall Corners are much stronger and easier to apply than the toughest metal bead corner available. No-Coat Corners are constructed with a tapered, impact-resistant plastic corner laminated between joint tape on the inside and a paint-ready, fiber-board surface on the outside. When the joint tape chemically bonds to the drywall with all-purpose mud, the No-Coat Corner becomes part of the structure. That means the corners in this Habitat house will last for a long, long time.

Another benefit No-Coat Corners offer the Yonkers house project is ease of installation. A 1/2" flap eliminates any cracking along the edge, making "feathering" easier, while creating a stronger bond. And, because these corners only need about a third of the mud, they only need a third of the drying time. That makes it possible for the painters to start a day earlier - a critical timing issue if the house is going to be completed in just five days.
