After years of exposure to the elements, the Paint was in bad shape

In The Beginning, There was Just Paint

When I first looked at this steeple, there was peeling paint, rust, dirt and mold. The options for the Church was to paint it again or use a product like Rhino Shield Spray-on Ceramic Coating System that is proven to last for decades.

This Steeple is over 125 feet tall. Not very easy to get to!

The preparation was extensive. It's not a part of the building we wanted to return to in the near future. The prep included washing down the surfaces, scraping any loose paint off, alot of sanding, priming the rusted areas with a special Rhino Shield red oxide primer and caulking with an elastomeric sealant. It was definitly the biggest part of the project.

The Coating Begins...finally

With the preparation finally completed, the application of the Coating System was ready to start. Rhino Shield has features that differ from traditioal paint and each product of the system has a special purpose to achielve its' longevity. Here, the crew is applying the Adhesive Primer that acts like a glue to seal itself to the substrate and remains tacky so the next product bonds permanantly to it. The flexible Ceramic Finish Coat was applied next, in the origional color the church had used before.

The completed product

The finished project looks great! Southeast Coatings, Inc. usually does Rhino Shield on houses and commercial buildings, so this project was a real challange. If we can complete a job such as this, imagine what we could do for a house.
