T o record a show or series

While Relatively Simple to plug into the TVs port and set to watch movies it is a bit more complicated to record a show or series.

The easiest way

While watching your favorite show click on the record button.
This will record the show you are watching. And if you have not changed the channel since it began it will record the show for up to one hour before you hit the record button. This is great if you are watching while distracted or ran out of the room to change a diaper or take out a TV dinner from the microwave and forgot to hit pause.

If you are watching your favorite show but want to record the series

Click on Guide.
The show you are watching should automatically be selected.
hit the record button. (If you hit the "select" button the guide will turn off and you will be back where you started.)

After clicking the record button It will give you the option of "record this show" or "record entire series"
Hit the down arrow key once to highlight to "record entire series"
Hit the "select" key in the middle of the arrows on your remote.
Then you have the several options first is for "first run and repeats" second is for "first run only". Use your right arrow key for these.
I generally pick first run only as I have probably seen last seasons shows and don't want to fill up my entire hard drive memory on a single series.

Then hit the down arrow for the next option.
The channel you are on or any channel.
I generally leave it on the channel I am on because if you select "Any Channel" and it is a show that is on cable stations in reruns you may get hundreds of the same show recorded every day.

Hit the down arrow key for the next option.
Air times the time you have selected or any showings.
Again if you are selecting a show in reruns you may get lots and lots of recordings. However if you are recording American Idol or Dancing with the stars which have various start times on different days you will want to select any showings. By the way when stations change their schedules you will need to reprogram the show if you selected a specific showing time.

Hit the down arrow key for the next option.
Save options are until space is needed or until manually erased.
I select until space is needed so that I always have my most recently recorded shows available for viewing.

Hit the down arrow key for the next option.
episodes to keep the number you want to keep If this is a show you are recording for the kids I would not change anything as you want to keep them all. For me I select 2, If I haven't watched the show in two weeks I am not likely to watch a marathon of past episodes.

Hit the down arrow key for the next option.
start time and end time
I only play with the end time if my show is after a live sporting event. For instance "60 Minutes" is on after football on CBS and routinely start 15 or twenty minutes late. I would not adjust the start time as you don't know if it will start on time but be sure to adjust the end time by 30 or 45 minutes unless you don't mind missing Andy Rooney.

Then hit the "A" button to accept your recording options.

To Check you recent programming Prowess

Hit the "List" button on your remote.

You have the options of
Saved Shows
Scheduled Recordings
Series Manager

Saved shows are ones already recorded.
You may not have any but when you do just hit the arrow key down till you have highlighted the show you want to watch and hit select and then play. the show should begin playing. If you were already watching the show you will want to pick resume playback. If your spouse was watching and you want to start the show again from beginning just select play and you will start from the beginning. your spouse can always fast forward to the point they were watching later.

Scheduled Recordings
If you have scheduled your series or show to record and the future schedule is in the guide you will see the episode set to record. Don't Fret if you don't see the show. Sometimes the cable company only has a day or two of future guide. But if it the same day as your show airs you should see your show listed here.

Series Manager

If you have programmed series to record you will see them listed here regardless if they are in the guide. It will not have the specific dates shows will be recorded but which series you have set to record. If your show has changed times, days of the week or schedule this is where you would adjust that. Select the series and you will be in the same options menu as if you had selected this show from the guide, however your previous selections will be the ones in the list. they can be adjusted using the arrow keys as before.
