In this step, we prepped these walls, which were the original builder white flat paint, by taping off all of the woodwork, backfilled the woodwork with caulking, and sanded all of the walls for a smooth finish. We then wiped the walls with a damp rag to remove all excess dust.
With a lot of red paints these days, a gray primer is suggested, to ensure the desired color. Our local paint professional was able to tell us which shade of gray was needed for the red we were applying. With this step, we applied the gray primer by cutting in all edges with our brush and rolling with a 1/2" nap roller. 1 coat is usually sufficient when priming.
In our final step, we applied our red by cutting in all of the edges with our brush, and rolling with a 1/2" nap roller. It is suggested to use a "soft woven" type roller cover, for painting with red, because some roller covers can actually separate the tints in the red paint. "Soft woven" roller covers are finer and are usually white in color. We applied two coats of red for our finished product.
