Pecan Place. A custom design by architect George F. Barber 1893

An 1893 stick style victorian that was built onto an 1840s itialianate. we have begun to restore the outside by removing the vinyl siding to reveal its beautiful original custom milled siding. We have selected 5 historic colors and are using an oil based enamel with varying glosses. Exterior work has been pretty straightfoward. Repair whats bad and strip and paint whats good . Most damage was due to faulty flashing. The home was pretty solid having been restored about 25yr ago by the POs. This is a slow project as me and my wife are doing all of it and it is a large house at just under 5000sq. ft.

Front porch

We started on the front porch because it had the most damage from neglect and weather. Framing had become very weak on the north side . I replaced most of the framing on this side and installed new toung and groove keeping the original look. I also added blocking between the joist and supports to make for a nice solid feel.

Staining porch floor

The grade of pine we used was very clear so we decided to stain and finish with a spar poly. It turned out very well. You can also see our color choices here for the siding and trim. The front door is also finished.
