BuildingGreen, LLC, publisher of the GreenSpec® Directory and Environmental Building News™, announced the 2008 Top 10 Green Building Products at the U.S. Green Building Council's Greenbuild Conference in Boston last month. The seventh annual list includes a large number of interior products such as the first FSC-certified and formaldehyde-free bamboo flooring, a line of zero-VOC paint and a line of organic fabrics.
Three of the products this year save energy, including an affordable solar water heating system. Half of this year's winners are products that are made from natural, rapidly renewable or agricultural waste materials. BuildingGreen's Top 10 product selections are drawn from new additions to the company's GreenSpec product directory, which now includes more than 2,000 product listings. Go here for the complete list of this year's winners.
The green movement is something we all have to participate in to make it work. Ben Moore's Natura and Sherwin Williams' Harmony are great examples. One thing to watch for with bamboo flooring is that it is harvested in a eco-friendly manner. In theory the stuff grows so fast it should be a wonderful choice but not all manufacturers are responsible in this regard.

I pretty much have to stick with those things that cost nothing or very little. Would love to put in solar, or even wind, power, but the initial investment is way out of line for me.
