The Crocodile Rocks

A new circular saw called the Crocodile was named on Popular Mechanics’ "Top 13 New Tools for 2008" from the National Hardware Show. This tool may be small enough to hold in one hand, but it still packs a punch. It is the first circular saw designed to cut wood, drywall, plastic and metal. This diversity makes the Crocodile a pretty handy tool on a remodeling job. Not to mention, it has a really cool name.

5 Reasons to Choose Bamboo Flooring

There are many choices for flooring. Even if you are able to choose the type you want easily, you still have several decisions to make. If you think that hardwood flooring is the way to go, try to think outside of the box a little bit. Remember that maple and cherry hardwoods aren’t your only options. Here are five reasons why bamboo makes a great hardwood floor:
1) The natural grains and patterns provide a warm finish.
2) Bamboo is extremely strong and durable.
3) It is environmentally friendly (it’s an easily renewable resource).
4) It still has great color and style. 5) Bamboo is the newest and coolest floor choice.

A Product that's Not All Wet

Taking notes is a part of nearly everyone’s job. Lots of people do not have the luxury of working inside, however. Builders, construction workers and even DIY homeowners, for instance, know very well how water, ink and paper mix. Needless to say, rain can really be a nuisance when you are trying to make or preserve notes. A product called Rite in the Rain can be a perfect solution for outdoor workers. Rite in the Rain is specifically designed to shed water and keep ink from spreading. At $3 a notepad, this product is a little more expensive than standard paper. It is fully recyclable and environmentally friendly though, which is not true of synthetic or poly-coated paper.

1) Enhance the curb appeal.
2) Beautify the interior.
3) Clear out the clutter.
4) Inspect your kitchen and bathrooms.
5) Hire a home inspector.

Do your research online before you head shopping.

Shop Better

We just remodeled our kitchen, and there was a lot of shopping involved. I am not a good shopper. That just means that I don’t like wandering around a store looking at every possible option. I like to narrow it down to at least two products, go in the store to look at both, buy one and bring it home. Lowe's Buying Guides can be very helpful. They give general information that is applicable in any home improvement store. The refrigerator buying guide gave my family tips on what size would work for us according to the size of our family, the space available, etc. There was also a list of refrigerator configuration information and one of possible features in refrigerators. When moving your focus from appliance to appliance, this guide makes it easy to choose the right model quickly. Now that’s my kind of shopping.

Painting Tips

Painting is a great way to improve the look and value of your home. Here are some tips for the next time you decide to brush on another coat from Mrs. FIXIT™, a site of helpful household hints.

1.) If you wear contact lenses, cover your eyes with something (goggles, glasses, etc.). The fumes will cause your contacts to irritate your eyes.
2.) To get good brush painting results, dip the brush in the paint no more than two inches and tap it against the sides of the bucket.
3.) When painting stripes, paint a thin coat of base color over the tape in order to seal it.
4.) If you’re painting a window frame, overlap the paint onto the glass slightly to seal the seam between glass and wood.
5.) Wrap a rag around your painter’s tool when you’re finished and rim it around the can. This will close the can tightly.

The Line on Copper

The demand of copper is rising dramatically, along with the price. This has caused some people to doubt whether copper is worth using in homes anymore. In a recent survey conducted by the Copper Development Association (CDA), a majority of Americans still think the benefits of copper make it worth being used. Some of these benefits include:

1) When used for frequently touched objects, such as doorknobs, copper kills dangerous germs and bacteria.
2) Copper improves indoor air quality and reduces energy consumption when it is used in the heating and AC systems.
3) Copper is totally recyclable.
