Magnificent English Regency Period Tortoise Shell Tea Caddy
A wonderful English tortoiseshell tea caddy dating to around 1810 / 1820, 200 years old. The elegant domed lid is decorated with silver stringing reaching from each corner to the central silver mount on top the lid which acts as a cartouche, which is vacant and could be engraved if desired. There is also a silver mounted escutcheon to the front. The lid lifts to reveal a totally original interior with it's green velvet lining to the lid, ivory trim and the domed compartment lids with turned ivory knobs. the lock too is original (alas, no key) and the compartments interior's remain untouched. The caddy has been overhauled by one of Britain's most esteemed tortoiseshell restorers and has been polished to a wonderful sheen. There are a couple of old hairlines, one to the front running from the escutcheon and another at the back running from one of the hinges. These are hard to see with the naked eye as the restorer has ensured they are stable and insignificant and polished in. An absolute stunner sure to please in superb original form, Measures 7" x 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" tall. Item ID: 30943 -------------------- FREE Worldwide Registered Airmail, Insurance Optional.
