Magnificent Huge Tortoise Shell and Silver Mirror - Victorian
This is certainly a rare and magnificent museum quality piece. The large frame itself is made from gorgeous tortoiseshell with stunning markings and colourings ranging from champagne to deep chocolate brown, with a good glossy patina. The solid or sterling English silver mounts can only be described as outstanding with overflowing cornucopias, floral garlands, foliate scrolls and a vacant cartouche in the center, perfect for engraving if desired. The silver has a clear British silver hallmark for London 1891, a true and magnificent Victorian example. The backing is all original with it's worn purple velvet backing and the bevelled mirror glass too, is totally original. Heirloom quality at it's best, totally luxurious .... you won't see another!
