Pair of Mythical Garden Figures from Casa Bienvenida
Pair of mythical garden statues from Casa Bienvenida, an historic estate on Park Lane in Montecito, California designed by Mr. Addison C. Mizner and built by Alfred A. Dietrich in the late 1920's. These mythical figures have parrot shaped heads, wings and bodies in the shape of a cat with their tails in between their legs. Very good condition. Age is believed to be 1920's or 1930's. Photograph included among enlargements depicts Casabienvenida's back terrace, scanned from the back cover of "Montecito: The Days of the Great Estates". for additional information. 25"H, 19"W, 9"D. izner (1872-1933) was Florida's leading architect in the 1920Â's. He established his own unique Spanish and Mediterranean Revival style that became the architectural signature of Florida, and in so doing, created the ambience that truly transformed Palm Beach and South Florida. A romantic and freewheeling man, Mizner was strongly influenced by the art of Spain and the Central Americas, where he spent much of his childhood. At the height of his career, Mizner designed over fifty Palm Beach villas and Florida mansions for the nationÂ's leading social families. He also designed the famous Everglades Club (1918) in Palm Beach, the Boca Raton Resort and Club (1925), the Via Mizner and the Via Parigi. MiznerÂ's work served as the models for other leading Florida architects during this period. As an architect and creator of a unique style that defined the resort communities of Florida forever, Addison Mizner has truly secured a lasting place in the architectural history of America.
