GeYao is among the 5 famous Song dynasty kilns. Prized for it fine crackle. This GeYao pot has the famed Ge "Gold and Iron." A fine pattern of a mosaic of gold (Gold)and black (Iron) lines criss-crossing the entire surface of the brush pot. This porcelaneous ware stands on 3 short feet. The entire form is glazed with an ivory white glaze, with exception to the center of the foot and areas on the feet bottom were the glazed failed to cover completely during firing. The exposed slightly coarse clay is brown ringed with an orange-brown fringe. Known as "Steel Foot and Purple Fringe." This was the result of a first dark blackish-brown first glaze being applied and fired. Afterwhich the second white glaze is applied and fired a second time. White "qin" permeated the glaze at and just below the mouth rim and including the entire inside of the brush pot. This was most likely caused from coming in contact with its juxtaposed tomb contents. The glaze also has a few glaze bubbles visible on the mouth rim and body which also occurred during the firing process. This piece was a de-acquisition from the Beijing Capital Museum and has a certificate of authenticity signed by the director of the museum.Condition Consensus: Excellent Condition, museum quality, without any damage or repair.b8
