This classic Scotch Pistol is remarkable in many respects. It is the pistol that historians believe fired the first shot of the American Revolutionary War. The Pitcairn is unusual because it is all steel and silver-no wood. Also unusual are the celtic silver inlay and the meticulous hand engraving on the barrel, frizzen, side plate, grip, pricker head and cock. Specification: Length overall 12"; Barrel length, 7 1/2"; Weight, 1 1/2 lbs including silver; Bore, 60 calibre (20 guage). Material, steel and silver; Finish, polished bright and engraved; turned ramrod; Steel ball trigger; Pricker (touch hold cleaner), steel with sterling cone cap. Belt hook, incised and engraved cut out steel. Ignition system, miquelet with horizontal (rocking) sear activating cock and releasing flint against steel frizzen. Decoration both silver and steel chiselled and engraved with silver inlaid in the steel.This is a working replica. #140 of a limited edition of 900. Created in conjunction of the US Historical Society, and the Eli Whitney Museum. It is an Official Issue of the Whitney Armory Museum.
