Transom, Eliptical, Wood & Lead, New England c.1790
A fine and rare Overdoor New England Transom of the c. 1790 period. This example retains most of the original cast lead neoclassic ornament. The apex is mounted with a star flower with veined petals, above are daisy swags connected by strawberry leaves. The spokes or rays are mounted with acanthus and Athenian leaves. It is most rare to see transoms with this amount of decoration. The piece was removed from a residence in Providence, Rhode Island. It has been hand cleaned of all old paint buildup, replacement lead work applied and the piece retains most of the original glass with some additions of period replacement glass. Silicone has been used to replace the original white lead.Height: 18", Length: 35.5", Width: 1.5"
