This is a nice clean extra heavy duty 1" wide x 16" long socket firmer chisel marked "UNION HARDWARE COMPANY U.S.A." on the steel (the Union logo is a bit hard to read as there is an oblong shape right through the UNION name and inside the oblong is, HARDWARE CO. mark. This is a good quality, heavy duty chisel, (is 1/2" thick toward the socket at the widest thickness), that has a good sharp cutting edge ready to use, very clean, no rust. The steel is clean and flat, no rust or pitting. The steel alone is 11.3" long. The ash hardwood handle is very nice, solid, with a good iron ferrule ring at the end, some wear, but in good working order. Plenty of use left in this nice clean, sharp, ready to use, quality made firmer chisel! This chisel is marked with the UNION HARDWARE CO. TORRINGTON CT. U.S.A. mark, and we know they were manufacturing tool in the 1870's, but we don't see any history of this company after the 1880's. A very nicely made antique chisel! Click for Price @ GoAntiques.com
