Said to have been found in the area of the Black Sea many years ago. The Vikings are well known for their savagery and their looting of monasteries, towns, and villages; not many of us realize however that they were skilled artists and jewellers. For the first 100 years of their reign most of their jewellery was acquired through raids. Subsequently the started making it, and in so doing demonstrated tremendous artistic skills, as is the case here. Periodically, large Viking hoards are unearthed the world over - the Vikings were well travelled going as far a field as Russia, Canada and North America. A fascinating piece of ancient history.
