Great to see some pallets put to good use, anything that is left over can be cut up for kindling wood. These are normally obtained free of charge. We have a large open fire, so we always use kindling. I will always stop when I see a tree surgeon cutting down a tree in someones home, they are glad to give you the logs, it saves them loading and then unloading them at their yard, Ive had free heating for two winters now.

Here's a 6th idea:

NYIT professors and students are designing shipping pallets that convert into roofs in developing countries. They screw in discarded water bottles to act like roofing tiles.

Here's their Kickstarter campaign to build a big shelter as a proof of concept:

I do a lot of work with pallets on my own blog. It is a lot of fun, and gratifying. But most of all you are recycling!

these are nothing like the pallets i have seen, wood quality is much higher, and alot less splintering.
pallets only last about a year before rotting because of the low quality of wood
i call shaninigans on this post

Love these ideas. I work in a receiving department where we get pallets everyday and don't know what to do with them when we don't need them anymore. These are GREAT ideas.
