True, you hit most of the facts. Friday the 13th was in fact the day that the king of France Philip IV; who was in huge debt to the templars had them (with the blessing of his puppet-pope Clement V) rounded up, tortured, and burnt at the stake. Over 2,800 templars died that day. And so was born Friday the 13th.

My history is shaky here. when the knights templar were guarding crusaders going to the holy land, they became the first banks. They would look after the money and posessions of the travellers, and keep that of those that didnt return. They became very wealthy and powerful. The pope became concerned, and hatched a plan to eliminate them. Thje knights were a disperate group, so the plan was to launch many attacks on the small groups of knights, at the same time and the same day to stop warnings being spread. The date chosen was Friday the 13th.

Good article. I will have to remember the one about carrying the hoe into the house. 13 is a lucky number for Powerball, I can never get the other 5 numbers to align. Very informative.

Wow! I made it through the 13th unscathed. I had no idea there were so many other household superstitions than don't go under a ladder. And now I know that I just need cross my fingers to undo the bad luck. Thanks for this fun article!!!
