Odd electrical box
Jan-29-2012 09:40 AM
I'm buying a house and noticed this gadget below. It's upright on the side of the kitchen island, exposed, no cover. No bigger than 3 inches wide and 6 inches tall with a large gauge wire atop it. Can you tell me what this is and what it does? The realtor representing the seller couldn't even tell us.

It's called a thermostat. Don't know what it controls. Maybe an exhaust fan or something like that.

But it's about 4 inches off the floor, and there is no exhaust fan in that kitchen.

It's called a thermostat. Don't know what (if anything) it controls. From where I am I can only guess. Follow the wires connected to it and see where they go or turn the dial and see if anything comes on or goes off. It's a line voltage thermostat.

Yeah, that is definitely a thermostat. So it's in kitchen? It may be for ventilation
