Dorsey Residence by Coates Design
By Freshome.com on Jan 19, 2013

We've gotten so used to seeing home designs pay tribute to minimalism and functionality that this particular residence and its splashes of personality surprised us in a pleasant manner.
The Dorsey Residence on Bainbridge Island in Washington State was envisioned by Coates Design to maximize its footprint through the use of vertical space. Located on a waterfront propriety and anchored into the hillside, the house showcases two completely different facades: one facing the street with an austere, closed-off appearance and the other, comprised of many windows, which opens towards the green landscape.

Once inside, this seemingly anonymous home reveals its true nature. Flooded in light, the spacious interiors allow the inhabitants to experience spectacular views of the Olympic Mountains and neighboring waters.
Color is tastefully present throughout, contributing to a dynamic social space. A generously sized deck connects to the living room and cantilevers from the home’s structure, providing a bridge between indoors and out.
