Weekend Retreat: Hill-Maheux Cottage by Kariouk Associates
By Inthralld on Jun 04, 2012
In search of the perfect escape from their busy daily lives, one family along with their daughter teamed up with the folks at Kariouk Associates to develop this stunning Hill-Maheux Cottage.
Residing in the lush landscape of Val-des-Monts, Quebec, Canada, this project was recently completed just a few short years ago in 2010. Aside from escaping their daily lives the family was looking for a weekend retreat that was connected to the surrounding nature, and a timeless design that could be conserved for the family’s daughter to inherit one day down the road.
“The design of the cottage is simple: two “bars” of living space that are joined by an elliptical loft hovering over the foyer and giving shelter to the entry below. One bar is private, containing bedrooms, bathrooms, and storage; one bar is public, containing the kitchen, dining, and living areas. The elliptical loft is the domain of the daughter.”
