If anyone has any suggestions on how to realize this as cost effective as possible... I am all ears.

Situation Sketch: Old Farmhouse (1850), Climat: 30 C(86F) during summer down to -35C(-31F) during winter. Surface area +/- 50 square meters (165 square feet) Floor carriers are oakwood beams about 18x18cm (7"x7") resting on piled up/ big rocks on open soil/ground. Space below the beams is on average 30cm (12") high, there are 4 ventilation holes with a diameter of 12cm (5") at beam level in the foundation 1 on each short end of the wall and two on the long end, other long end is closed and attached to another part of the house.

Whats I want to do is the following: 1) lower the ventilation holes to below the beams 2) Put breathing rock or glass fiber insulation in between the beams. 3) Stretch semi-permeable foil over the beams and up the wall a bit (40cm (16") or so) allowing water/watervapor down but not up. 4)Close up the floor with presswood 1/2" 8' x 4' sheets to create a working floor. and here my ideas end, I want to place floor-heating (water)hooked up to the existing radiators on top of this floor but have no clue wether this is even possible or how to go about it. On top of this the floor will be finished with 3/4" thick oak boards.

Well thats my plan... any and all sugetions are very welcome. If I left out any details please feel free to ask :-)

I think the plan can work. Yes to lowering vents, insulation (I'd use rigid 2-inch Polyisocyanurate), and since it's a crawl space, I'd cover the dirt with a layer of Visqueen polyethylene sheeting. I would not go for the in-floor hydronic radiant unless you're getting rid of the radiators and putting in a new boiler. There are some really great new high efficiency ones that will save you money. - Bob
